RCNA providing new opportunities for Aboriginal health students

In 2011 the Royal College of Nursing Australia (RCNA) will launch the Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme, providing scholarships to Aboriginal people studying in the health field.  Funding is to be managed by the Federal Department of Health and Ageing.

The scheme was established in recognition of Dr Arnold ('Puggy') Hunter's significant contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health as Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.

The RCNA has been accepting applications for scholarships since June, but you can still submit yours before Friday 20th if you are currently studying at TAFE (Certificate IV or above) or university in the following areas:
  • Aboriginal health worker
  • Alcohol and other drugs workers
  • Allied health (excluding pharmacy)
  • Dentistry/oral health
  • Health service management
  • Health promotion
  • Medicine
  • Mental health
  • Midwifery
  • Nursing
