Creating a fairer Australia - our 2010 Annual Report released

Mission Australia 2010 annual report will be released today to coincide with the organisation’s Annual General Meeting, to be held at our national office in Sydney.

This year’s report focuses on Mission Australia’s efforts to create a Australia for all, and focuses on our achievements through each of our five pathways:

The annual report is set out in a folder style, with the left side featuring highlights of the year and the right side holding a concise financial report. A full financial report is also available online.

Because it includes all the relevant figures for the 2009-10 financial years, including client numbers and major projects, the Mission Australia Annual Report 2010 serves as a concise reference tool for both operational and fundraising staff.

To request a printed copy please email turnbulle@missionaustralia.com.au or you can download a PDF version of the Annual Report and our Full Financial Report at www.missionaustralia.com.au/about-mission-australia/mission-australia-annual-report, which also contains a handy ‘snapshot’ of 2009-10.

Mission Australia recognised at PriceWaterhouseCoopers Transparency Awards

Mission Australia was recognised on Thursday 6 May at the annual PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Transparency Awards, receiving the runner-up award for the most transparent 2008-09 Annual Report in the not-for-profit sector.

The awards recognise the quality and transparency of reporting among Australian charities, and encourage not-for-profits to be more professional in their reporting.

Tim Morris-Smith, Chief Financial Officer, accepted the award on behalf of Mission Australia stating: “Mission Australia has at its heart a passion to transform the lives of disadvantaged Australians and to see a fairer Australia.

"It is a diverse and complex organisation – and we benefit immensely from the feedback given through the transparency awards process because it enables us to paint a clearer picture for our stakeholders and for our donors.”

Tim was joined on-stage by the other report contributors to collect the award and a $10,000 cheque for investment in staff training and professional development.  Credit goes to the Mandy Jones, Kathryn Ossipoff and Oliver Halley from Mission Australia's Marketing and Corporate Affairs team for their work on the report.

This is the second time that Mission Australia has been recognised for high quality, transparent reporting in the PwC Transparency Awards' three-year history .

Celebrating 150 years: the 2008-09 Annual Review

Released today, the 2009 Mission Australia Annual Review details the key achievements of the organisation over the last financial year and celebrates its dynamic 150 year history. Much may have changed since 1859 but the purpose of Mission Australia remains the same - to transform the lives of Australians in need.

The review was also an opportunity to profile the very people who have kept Mission Australia in operation for so long: its supporters. Steven, Noel, Margaret and Colin share their stories, and a special message is included from Margaret McKay - the great granddaughter of Sydney City Mission founder Benjamin Short.

Highlights of the review
In 2008-09 Mission Australia:
  • Transformed the lives of 311,261 Australians in need
  • Increased company revenue to $308,570,336
  • Increased fundraising by $3 million
  • Grew our net assets by 2%
  • Established Mission Australia Housing
  • Established Mission Australia Early Learning Services
