First Manly team

The recent death of rugby league great Max Whitehead prompted one of our regulars to look out this old clipping of the first Manly-Warringah team to play in the NSWRL, from 1947. Their first match was against Wests, at Brookvale Oval on 12 April 1947. they lost narrowly, 13-15. International representative and beach sprint champion Johnny Bliss scored one of the tries, as did Kelly McMahon and Keith Kirkwood.
