Social enterprise restaurant and training program goes mobile

Mission Australia’s Charcoal Lane – the new and unique social enterprise restaurant that features an innovative training program focussing on Aboriginal young people – has gone mobile thanks to the donation of two vehicles with thanks to FleetPartners.

One twelve-seater  bus to transport trainees and apprentices to and from training programs and  one vehicle that will support the external catering side of the business have been donated to Mission Australia.

Charcoal Lane is operated by Mission Australia and is a social enterprise restaurant that supports a training program designed to empower  disadvantaged young people to develop professional and life skills to  transition into a successful career in hospitality.

Mission Australia State Director, Paul Bird says Charcoal Lane will benefit greatly from the generous donation.

“Charcoal Lane offers young disadvantaged people the opportunity to be trained in a skill that will boost  their career prospects and self-esteem,” said Mr Bird.

“Giving  trainees the opportunity to access the best and most beneficial hospitality  experiences throughout Melbourne is a great initiative and will substantially benefit the training program.

“The generosity of our corporate partners has always been remarkable and FleetPartners is no exception.”

FleetPartners CEO, Nick Johnson said that he was  proud to provide the vehicles and provide such an amazing opportunity for  young disadvantaged people, particularly from the Aboriginal community, to  achieve a qualification and long-term employment opportunities in the hospitality industry.

“Charcoal Lane is a really innovative and exciting restaurant experience,” said Mr Johnson.

“In particular we are helping support and develop the awareness of unique Australian food in our community and the development of skills of young people who don’t necessarily get these opportunities in life.

FleetPartners fully backs Mission Australia’s Charcoal Lane and looks forward to continuing its support into the future.”

The restaurant is located at 136 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy featuring Aboriginal cuisine fused with international food styles.

Charcoal Lane is open for lunch and dinner service six days a week.
