Will Israel declare economic independence?

This monologue by Professor Paul Eidelberg aired on Israel National Radio on March 16, 2009.

For anti-Zionists it is an article of faith that US aid to Israel is the only thread keeping the "artificial colonial apartheid-state" alive, and that the US receives little or nothing for its investment. The truth is more complicated. US aid to Israel in 2006 accounted for only 1.3% of Israel's GDP, hardly a decisive sum. Moreover, 74% of that money is required to be spent on the US arms industry creating American jobs. When you factor in Israeli advances in research and development, weapons testing and intelligence, the relationship is a net gain for America in all senses.

"The mutually beneficial US-Israel relationship"

It's in Israel's best interest to declare economic independence regardless if we both scratch each others' back, as allies are known to do. The American tax-payers' money is going to all the wrong people for all the wrong reasons, and if aid continues it should be earmarked for truly Jewish groups and organizations - not the corrupt Israeli oligarchy controlled government of thieves and murderers.

Christian-Zionist David Ben-Ariel's strong response to Shimon Peres' weak AIPAC speech, condemning the lying peace process, collaboration with the Vatican and warning about UN Resolution 181 as the Final Solution!
